Is Blink Video Doorbell waterproof and weather resistant?
Yes, the Blink Video Doorbell is waterproof and weather resistant. It is rated IP54, which means it is able to resist rain, dust, and heat. The doorbell is also designed to withstand temperatures as low as -4 degrees F, and the sensor uses PIR motion detection, which is effective at detecting movement up to 20 feet away. Additionally, the doorbell comes with a pocket-lint and a waterproof protective cover replacement for added protection.
What’s the Difference Between Waterproof and Water Resistant?
Waterproof and water-resistant are two different concepts when it comes to devices like Blink cameras. Waterproof devices can be submerged without showing signs of malfunction. In contrast, a water-resistant device can get wet without harm, but it will be damaged when submerged or flooded with water.
For instance, The Blink Indoor & Outdoor Camera (Generation 2) has an IP65 weather rating, making it weather-resistant, while the XT and XT2 line of Blink Cameras offers weatherproofing and water resistance, but not flood resistance, submersion resistance, or true waterproofing.
Ring doorbells and outdoor security cameras are also water-resistant and designed to withstand normal rainfall and snow, however, these products are not waterproof and should not be submerged in water or sprayed with high-pressure water.
Brief Overview of the Blink video doorbell camera
The Blink Video Doorbell Camera is an affordable and easy-to-use video doorbell. It features a 1080p video HD capture with a 135-degree horizontal field of view, infrared night vision, two-way audio for communication through Echo Show or mobile, and a Sync module for offline storage.
It is compatible with Alexa and does not currently support Google Home or Apple HomeKit devices. The motion sensor can be customized to only trigger with a motion from set areas within its field of view, and the camera system can be set to a schedule to only ‘arm’ at night.
It also can communicate with Echo speakers through the Blink Skill and with Echo Show, you can ask your Echo to show you the front doorbell feed and communicate with the person at the door. Video quality with the doorbell is good, with 1080p resolution and night vision capabilities.
How To Avoid Blink Doorbell cameras From Getting Wet
To avoid your Blink doorbell from getting wet, make sure there are no openings near the camera’s location that could let in rain or other sources of moisture. Installing the camera at an angle can also help keep water droplets from gathering on the lens.
If your Blink doorbell does get wet, it’s important to assess the damage and test the device to ensure it is still functional. If it’s not working, you can try putting the device in a jar or bag of rice as this can help absorb any moisture. You can also air dry the device for a few days, or use a hair dryer on low or no heat for 20 to 30 minutes.
What Should You Do If Water Is Found in the Battery Compartment of your Blink video doorbell camera?
If water is found in the battery compartment of your Blink video doorbell camera, the first step is to demount it from its mount. Shake the camera gently to release as much water as you can, then use a soft towel or any other fabric to blot away the liquid.
To make sure all moisture is removed from the camera’s electrical circuit, use a hair dryer to dry it for 20 to 30 minutes on low or no heat. Make sure to remove any water droplets from the camera’s lens, or your eyesight can get distorted or fuzzy.
If your Blink doorbell camera is still not functioning properly after drying, calculate the damage and test it to see if it needs to be repaired. Also, check the batteries to make sure they are not exposed to water, as moisture or water can corrupt their connections.
If your device is still not working, put it inside a jar or bag filled with rice, as this might help it work properly again. Alternatively, if you are sure the damage was caused by the device’s poor or faulty design and is still covered by warranty, you can submit a warranty claim.
